I do not remember the first time we met, xxii

Hot Starbucks on white blouse, xx

Fortuitous meetings at debauched cocktail parties,

Jenny’s xviii

Dolly’s swank boss’ xv

Marcus’s xiii

Autumn longing, vii

No such thing as too much wine, iii

Your legs twilight-tangled, 1

Mutually averted, 3

Phone-tag, 6

Smoldering curiosity, 10

I had no grace and you had no courage, 11

Phone-tag, 16

Spiked punch at Steven’s, 19

Your trembling laid me bare, 20

Cat Power, 22

Imagining your arched back while swiveling in my office chair, 23

And the air filling your lungs, 25

Jenny looked away and Marcus brooded, silent, 27

Perhaps I should have heeded, 30

The engine of your being,

It creaks and shudders, 31

Freshly cut vertigo 32

You blink twice, close your eyes, 35

I am your extraordinary machine, 36

Warmth,

Joy 40

Garners 54

Such 78

Titles 97

Hands over ears,

You spoke of tablecloths 105

I spoke of green apple skins, 110

Transatlantic missions in a paper boat, 118

An excess of gin and tonic, 120

After the flood, 130

Henceforth, sweetly, sincerely, 131

Your face, 135
