I like the freshness and the common touch in it.
But to me the poem really doesn't fulfill the requirements
of high complexity and formal constringency ascribed to
traditional sestinas. The line breaks are too haphazard
and have no justification of their own. (Generally, I'd prefer
one single verse pattern, and more variety in the thoughts
captured). And for a delibarate "anti-formal" stance, the poem
lacks anarchic energy. The "being drunk " idea is astute and
delightful, though ( but demands all the more mastery).

That said, dear Savannah, I am not sure I would do any
better! :-)

Dear Rachel,

Your writing is so clear and poignant. Having gone to college in Rochester, New York, I went up through Buffalo a few times to go to Niagara Falls. Your story took me back to my college days while also giving me insight to your father and mother.

You, my friend, are going places! I'm proud of you and look forward to reading more of your work.

Hugs, Sharaine

Hi Rachel,
I'm your dad's sister, Deb. I really enjoyed reading your blog post, what a wonderful family trip that sounds like. I knew your dad during those days and it was delightful to reminise while reading. I haven't been back to Elma for over 25 years so it was delightful to share your journey. I'd love to meet you someday. You are always welcome in my home should you decide to venture to this part of the world. Much love, deb

Poignant ride down memory lane with your father, Rachel. I loved reading it and felt that I was there watching and listening also. Hopefully, you'll ask for more detail from your father about those days and places of long ago---it will enrich you both.
Hugs,
Bob
