I like the freshness and the common touch in it.
But to me the poem really doesn’t fulfill the requirements
of high complexity and formal constringency ascribed to
traditional sestinas. The line breaks are too haphazard
and have no justification of their own. (Generally, I’d prefer
one single verse pattern, and more variety in the thoughts
captured). And for a delibarate “anti-formal” stance, the poem
lacks anarchic energy. The “being drunk ” idea is astute and
delightful, though ( but demands all the more mastery).

That said, dear Savannah, I am not sure I would do any
better!

Your writing is so clear and poignant. Having gone to college in Rochester, New York, I went up through Buffalo a few times to go to Niagara Falls. Your story took me back to my college days while also giving me insight to your father and mother.
