It’s somewhat related, I think, to what I’ve called the politics of cowardice. Politics has this incredible requirement that the participants be all-knowing and that they operate according to simplistic nonsense—such as, I think, victory/defeat in the Iraq war. A sign of a great leader, I think, is someone who can look past those boxes and see more sensible possibilities, and who can thereby change the terms of the debate.

So it seems in terms of figuring out who we are and what we derive satisfaction from, maybe a different route is best. Not mother Theresa and suppressing imagination nor ML and flaunting it. but accepting and exploring our doubts, uncertainties, and certainties (our politics) as the most real expressions of ourselves (our imagination and mind).
